Mary Loi Yves Ricalde, known by her stage name Maloi, was born in Lemery, Batangas, Philippines. At 22 years old, Maloi’s early years were filled with music and family support. Her father works as an Overseas Filipino Worker, while her mother and three siblings reside in General Trias, Cavite. From a young age, Maloi showed a passion for music and performance, which would set the stage for her future career.

Childhood Competitions

Maloi began singing at the tender age of three, often engaging in karaoke sessions. By seven, she participated in her first singing competition, an experience that boosted her confidence and honed her skills. Her talents were not limited to singing; Maloi also enjoyed dancing, which complemented her performances in school events and competitions. In 2018, her choral group from General Trias represented the Philippines in a competition in Malaysia, where they won three gold medals.

Star Hunt Academy

In 2018, Maloi auditioned for the Star Hunt Auditions in Laguna. Out of 250 aspirants, she was selected for a five-day boot camp, eventually becoming a trainee at Star Hunt Academy (SHA) in early 2019. Under SHA, Maloi received extensive training from notable Filipino voice coaches Kitchy Molina and Anna Graham, and dance coaches Mickey Perz and Matthew Almodovar. She also embraced the rigorous Korean training system with the help of MU Doctor Academy, which instilled in her the discipline and practices of Korean idol training.

Public Performances

As an SHA trainee, Maloi participated in various ABS-CBN mall shows and events nationwide. She was also a Youth Ambassador at the 2019 National Youth Commission event FITFIL: Youth Against Drugs. Her training continued even during the COVID-19 pandemic, with Maloi and her co-trainees staying in Camp Star Hunt to ensure their safety. In October 2020, Maloi graduated from SHA and was announced as one of the final eight members of the girl group BINI.

Pre-Debut Phase

In November 2020, Maloi officially became a member of BINI, an all-girl group under ABS-CBN Entertainment. Their pre-debut single, “Da Coconut Nut,” marked their entry into the music industry. On December 4, 2020, Maloi and her BINI co-members signed an exclusive contract with ABS-CBN Entertainment and Star Magic Philippines, solidifying their status as a professional idol group.

Maloi’s favorite color is black, and she enjoys watching K-dramas and playing the guitar and ukulele in her free time. Her special talent lies in composing songs, and her favorite subject in SHA was singing. Maloi’s favorite motto is, “Even if you are far away, triplihon pa an Maqueda Bay,” reflecting her resilient and optimistic outlook.
